Article 340: My Beautiful Arabic Language (Bilingual Poetry)

in Language

Hasan A. Yahya, a Poet from the Arab Land

قصيدة لغتي العربية ..... ما أحلاها

An Arab Poem: My Beautiful Arabic Language

أنا عربي اللغة يدا وعقلا ولسان

I am an Arab, in hand, mind, and tongue

أنا الذي في صروف الدهر

I am the one where the age achievements

أوصلتني اللغة قمة البيان

Made me in the high place

وبها وصفت وافتخرت

I described in Arabic, and felt proud

وتغنيت حتى ملأت الميدان

I sang until all heard me on the ground

وأنا الذي أمره الله بها أن أقرا

I am the one, whom God asked me to read

منذ زمن وأوصاني بالقسط والميزان

With it, long time ago, to be fair in measures

أنا عربي لوعلمت ما تعني

I am an Arab, if you know what that means

العربية الفصحى في البيان

Classical Arabic is clear

لغتي الجميلة وصفت كل جميل

My beautiful Language, described every beauty

وتوجها بنزوله القرآن

And crowned by Qur'an's revelation.

فبغيرها لجمالها وقداستها

Without it, for its beauty and sacredness

لا يرفع للعباد للصلاة أذان

No call for prayer will be made, for worshippers.

لغتي قد أحسنت إلي وهل

My language made favor to me,

مني جزاء الإحسان إلا الإحسان

What do you expect, other than  responding the same to it

فمن يفرط بالعربية لغة

Who he neglects Arabic as a language

حتما سيطويه النسيان

Sure, will be forgotten forever

ولن يكون له ذكر  إذا الشعوب

And he will not be remembered, if people

ذكرت ، في سالف العصر والأوان

Mentioned, in old times or modern

وسيصفه الناس إذا تخلى عنها

And he will be described , if he neglect it,

بابسط الأوصاف ، وألعنها ، جبان

In simple, and worse words, as coward.

ومن ومن يترك العربية لغته  يوما

Anyone leaves Arabic someday, as language

أصبح كالتائهين بلا عنوان

Will loose the way, without address.

ففي أغراض النثر  والنقد معاني

In prose, and critique are meaning,

وفي المعاني وصف البيان

And in meaning describing excellence.

وفيها علوم الجبر والكسر ،

Algebra in it, and logarithm,

وفيها علوم الحياة والإنسان

And science of life and human

فوجودي بها لا يصح إلا بها

My existence cannot be without it

فأنا وهي على المدى صنوان

I and she, all times twins

لغتي أنعم الله بها علي في قرآنه

God Has gifted me with it, in His Qur'an

وتغني بها شعراء الزمان

Poets in old times composed it.

أمم تفاخر بعضها  بلغاتها

Nations to each other  proud of its languages

فالعربية إليها يشار بالبنان

Arabic, then the finger shows to it.

أنا عربي وهذه صفة أعتز بها

I am an Arab, and I am proud to be

فهي ما أنعم بها علي

With the language as a gift from God.

وكرمني بحملها المنان

He honored me to carry it,

أفديها بروحي وعقلي

I sacrifice it with soul and mind.

فموتي وحياتي بدونها سيان

Cause, life and death are equal without it.

ففيها الدوح بالغزل والفخر

The gardens with Ghazal and praise are full,

وفيها الوصف به يتغنى اللسان

And description is a song to my tongue

وقد عرف الكتاب بها فأوجدوا

Writers were known by it, they found,

فانظر تآليفهم في شتى الأفنان

Look at their writings in all literature aspects.

فهذا ابن سينا بالفلسفة معروف

This was Ibn Sina, known as the philosopher,

وجاحظ العينين في البيان

And al-Jahiz, with his wide eyes, in meaning.

وقد تمنطق بها إسماعيل

And Ismael, has kept it as his belt.

لغة ونطق لها بعده عدنان

As a language, and Adnan used it after him.

فغنها كلمات كل يوم

Sing it, as words, everyday

وعلى الكمان بكلامها

And sing the words on violin

السهل ردد الألحان

The meadows echo the rhapsody.

وسعت كتاب الله وسنة رسوله

It contained by the book of God, and sunnah of his Prophet.

منذ قرون وبدون اللفظ بها

For centuries , without uttering it,

لا يصبح الإنسان إنسان

A human cannot be, a human.

يا عربي ... نصيحة إليك

O Arabi…. My advice to you

أزجيها فخذها  مني ،

Sincerely, follow it.

لغتك العربية الجميلة

On your beautiful Arabic language

أن تعض عليها بكل قوة

بالأسنان .

Bite it, strongly, with your teeth.
