Importance of English Communication for Job Seekers

in Language
When people make fuss over the merits and demerits of any language, they obviously overlook a very crucial fact that language is not merely a means of exchanging thoughts, but also the way of getting civilized. Since the date of India’s independence, issues have been raised as regard the use and importance of English language. While some claimed it as symbolic of Indian subjugation, and assert that it carries along with memories reminiscent of India’s disgraceful past, others say that it is the language to reach out to the world and establish their credibility in the business across globe, whereby English communication skills are vital forthwith its status of an “international language”. Varied philosophers and eminent personalities have time and again justified the importance of English learning for an individual’s  mental, spiritual aesthetical and all round development and growth.

In Indian context, English is taught as the second or foreign language. Well, learning a foreign language is an artificial and unnatural way. That’s why, it is always said the first language is “caught” and the second language is “taught”. As the great philosopher, Robert Paul puts, “When we learn our first language, we face the universe directly and learn to clothe it with speech; when we learn a second language, we tend to filter the universe through the language already known.” This difference between the first and the second language learning provides Indian students with drawback in their otherwise perfect background.

The business language or cut to the present, language to excel in the job market has always been a feat to be conquered by Indian job hopefuls because it is greatly influenced by the regional language and dialects. Lack of firm rules for pronunciation, despite difference in spellings is a major problem confronted during second language teaching. Moreover, non uniformity in writing and speaking of English colonel, the distorted psychology swapping a lack of tandem between spellings and pronunciation throws up errors and confusion during the English learning trivia.

Also, there is a wide group of individuals who despite having a good accent and astoundingly rich vocabulary lack in the grammar aspect of the language. The basic difference in sentence formation of English (sub +verb +obj) and Hindi language (sub +obj +verb) dismantles the cognitive theory of learning of Indian pupils.

A worth mentioning barrier is the cultural difference. Needless to say, Indians are known for their moral and courtesy. In Indian context, utilizing him/her for senior addressal is not considered very decent; rather preference is withheld to the treatment of ‘they’.
To put it in nutshell, Indian students are subjected to errors in the formulation of English language and efforts need to be made to make up for the discrepancies in the language.
